Fuel Docks on the Erie Canal
25 along the canal, Troy → Buffalo
Fuel is the single thing you should plan deliberately on the Erie Canal. Working fuel docks are limited and spread out, and many of the canal-town walls that give you water and power sell no fuel at all. The rule cruisers pass down is simple: top off whenever you pass a working fuel dock, rather than gambling on a better one down the line.
These are the marinas along the canal where we’ve verified fuel, ordered east to west from Troy to Buffalo. Most sell gasoline — often non-ethanol, which boaters prefer — while diesel is much rarer, carried at only a handful of full-service yards. Each listing notes exactly what we could confirm; where a marina’s diesel wasn’t verified, we don’t claim it.
Fuel availability, hours, and pricing change from season to season. Call ahead before you commit to a fill, and confirm current conditions with the marina and the New York State Canal Corporation.
