Pump-Out Stations on the Erie Canal

13 along the canal, Troy → Buffalo

Holding-tank planning is part of any multi-day canal run, and the good news is that several canal towns offer free or low-cost pump-out right at the town wall — Newark, Spencerport, and Middleport among them — alongside the paid pump-outs at full-service marinas.

Below are the pump-out stations we’ve verified along the Erie Canal, Troy to Buffalo, ordered east to west. Each links to its own page with hours, cost where we have it, and what else is on the dock. Because stations are spread out, treat pump-out the way you treat fuel: use one when you pass it rather than waiting for the next.

Pump-out equipment goes out of service more often than any other dock amenity. Call ahead if a working pump-out is critical to your day, and confirm current status with the marina or the New York State Canal Corporation.
